Basics of Pistol Shooting

Our entry level Beginner Pistol Courses are offered in 2 formats. Our courses satisfy NRA, USCCA, and State standards. Please call ahead if you have a specific need or check out the options below! NRA Certificates are only available for the Full day option.

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

1 Day | 8 Hours – $250

Pistol Shooting Fundamentals

1 Day | 4 Hours – $200

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting - Full Course - 8 Hrs

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is a great way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting from the top firearms training organization in the world! Students will learn and get a chance to handle Semi-Auto Pistols, Revolvers, and Single Action Revolvers.  The course consists of 2 parts:

4 Hours of Classroom learning – Studnets will learn about the parts of the pistol, safe handling rules, loading and clearing a pistol, and general firearms knowledge that is helpful for shooters. 

4 hours of Range learning, developing  the skills required to shoot a pistol safely and competently.

Once on the range students may use their own personal pistol or one of the schools rental firearms.

Successful completion of the course includes an NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Certificate.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

Classroom:

Comfortable attire.

Range Training:

Eye Protection and Hearing Protection. (Rentals Available)

A reliable pistol. Recommended: 3 Magazines | Speed Loaders.

100 rounds of ammunition.

Appropriate range attire: Close toed shoes. No V neck style shirts. Dress for the weather considerations, the shooting range will be outdoors on the day of your qualifications. Sunscreen, and hats are recommended.

Hydration and Food – Range is not within walking distance of a convenience store bring snacks and waters. There will be a lunch break.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS?

Do I need to own a firearm to attend the training?

No.  In fact we reccomend attending the training prior to buying your first gun. As it will give you an idea of what firearms to buy if you decide to purchase.

What rentals do you have available?

We use Glock 9mm pistols as our primary rental pistols for training. We also have a double action revolver, single action revolver, and 22lr pistols available as rentals.

Why should I take the full course over the half day?

The full course provides the students with a more in depth knowledge base. The full course also comes with a certificate from the National Rifle Association. This course is widely recognized as one of the premier formal firearms trainings. We belive the full course better prepares students for the range afterwards as well.

Pistol Shooting Fundamentals - 4 Hours

This course is designed to help shooters establish proper grip, safe gun handling, and pistol shooting fundamentals. All experience levels welcomed; first time and experienced gun handlers will benefit from this training.

About our Shooting Ranges – Lopez Canyon in Sylmar CA

The course of fire is shot at an outdoor range. Coordinates and bay will be provided to students upon booking. Please note: This range is NOT open to the public. Access to the range is restricted to club members and trainers conducting courses. For your convenience you can use the map below. All bays have cover and seating. There is adequate restrooms and parking. For most cell carriers, reception will be limited once you approach the range. The road is accessible by vehicles with low ground clearance. Please drive slowly when approaching the range. Do not kick up dust or disturb the wildlife when approaching the ranges. The range is located approximately 10 mins from our classrooms. If you are commuting or ridesharing, an instructor can offer you transportation from the classrooms to the ranges. Once on the range, you may bring equipment to the bays but DO NOT uncase any firearms until instructed to do so. CCW / LEO’s you may remain holstered, do not unholster or clear any firearms until instructed to do so.
