NRA Home Firearm Safety Instructor
NRA Home Firearms Safety Instructor certification is a 5 hour course that teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential in organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Home Firearm Safety Course.
Instructor Candidate Prerequisites: Possession of an NRA Home Firearm Safety completion certificate, a well rounded understanding of firearms safety, the ability to manipulate and understand most firearms types including safely unloading pistols, rifles and shotguns, and completion of Basic Instructor Training within 2 years of attending this instructor course. Prior to the course, candidates will complete a pre-course questionnaire, demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.
Description: Home Firearms Safety Instructor Candidates must demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via the participation in practical exercises, instructor development exercises, and complete an instructor certification examination. All Instructors must attend the NRA Basic Instructor Training within 2 years of attending any instructor courses.

NRA Home Firearm Safety Instructor - 5 Hrs
NRA Instructor Certification requires 3 parts.
1: Basic certification in the skill the instructor candidate wishes to become a Certified Instructor.
2: The attendance of Basic Instructor Training within 2 years of becoming a Certified Instructor for a discipline.
3: The successfull completion of the Instructor Development course for the discipline the Instructor Candidate wishes to be certified in.
Discipline Specific: Home Firearm Safety Instructor
This is a 5 hour course that teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential in organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Home Firearm Safety Course.
Description: Instructor Candidates must demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via the participation in practical exercises, instructor development exercises, and complete an instructor certification examination.
Instructor Candidates will teach portions of the basic course during their evaluations. All Instructors must attend the NRA Basic Instructor Training within 2 years of attending any instructor courses.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Classroom:
Comfortable attire. All equipment will be provided. Instructor Candiates may bring training aids for their presentations and teach backs.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS?
Im a firearm safety instructor and rso for another organization, do I still have to attend the Basic Home Firearms Safety Course?
Yes. NRA will not certify an Instructor if they have no concept of the flow and content in the basic course.
Will we be touching real firearms?
Yes. However, in this class there all equipment will be provided and NO LIVE ammo is allowed in the classroom. All training will be on real firearms with dummy/inert training rounds. Instructor candidates must ask before bringing any firearms for class.
I am an RSO, or I am a Law Enforcement, Military, NRA instructor, and/or Certified Instructor elsewhere; Do I still need to attend the Basic Course and Basic Instructor Training prior to attending?
Yes. The NRA does not currently waive the prerequisites for experienced instructors or shooters. In order to become an NRA certified instructor you must meet all the requirements outlined, no exceptions. It is this commitment to training standards that makes the NRA the nationally recognized training program it is today.
